Vague, but inspiring

Beginners be warned!

I purchased this book when i began taking art a bit more seriously. I was a novice then, and I've nearly reached an intermediate level, but i have to say this book goes pretty in depth for it's subject.

However, i must warn you that it does NOT teach basic construction fundamentals that will allow you to draw and create from memory or imagination. It sort of does, but not in a very expansive or comprehensive sense. It shows head construction, but not how to construct the head. It shows figure construction, but not how to construct the figure? You feel me?

Where this book strides is in beautiful illustrations and mouth watering shading that is sure to please anyone who isn't very familiar with how art really works, such as how i was... When i did get it, it really got my hopes up as far as thinking i was much better than i actually was. i was certainly able to copy and shade the illustrations almost exactly how they were in the book. People i knew were very impressed by what they saw in my sketchbook, but i felt empty since i didn't actually create the drawings myself.

That's where it falls short, it doesn't teach you how to create your own images from scratch without reference very well. It has a section(s) on perspective, construction, composition, but they aren't enough for the newbie artist! the shading information is phenomenal if you're into charcoal, pencil, ink, or any black and white medium.

But to avoid that empty feeling, learn your construction fundamentals, i'd recommend checking out Andrew Loomis, Micheal Hampton (Figure drawing, design and invention), Hogarth, and Bridgman to learn those essentials. Also look into a very special book called, "The Natural way of Drawing" by Kimon Nicolaides. That book in particular helped me to mature a lot as an artist and person.

If you're an intermediate into charcoal, ink, etc. check this book out at least! If you're a beginner... you don't need it, but it will certainly give some inspiration if you can somewhat replicate what Civardi is illustrating.

I was a bit disappointed as I had already had a book by Giovanni Civardi entitled "Complete guide to Drawing" It was much larger and I really enjoyed his books. This is a smaller book and some of the pictures seem to be in the pervious book. As far as the instructions and the pictures they are very good. but again were in the larger book.

Generally a good book

This book has a lot of basic stuff in it. It is rather easy to read and simplistic. It is a good introductory kinetics book, but be prepared to take advantage of other resources in order to accomplish your kinetics task. Not necessarily a great reference book for your graduate studies.

Kinetics for mature, sensible adults. Eye protection required.

As a medicinal chemist and enzymologist I found this book to be not to my taste. Very little attention is devoted to Michaelis Mentin and the steady state approximation. Nor is very much attention paid to the organic chemistry of the rate laws of organic reactions.

But I suppose this is necessary. This is a general text on kinetics and in that regard it is a very good one. For starters it's small, making it easy to carry. This compactness of size leads to a corollary compactness in language. It's brevity makes difficult concepts a little easier to understand because they aren't smothered in endless confusing verbiage and examples.

With the knowledge comprised here you should be prepared to utilize kinetics in almost all circumstances. However, for specific functions, such as enzymology, a more specific book on the subject is recommended.

Espenson's book is ok. It's a little difficult to read at times, but covers the basics fairly well. More references would be useful. A good introductory book.

Most therapy workbooks are designed for direct use in a therapy settings, with exercises to be completed by the client(s) under the direction of the therapist. This workbook, however, is written for therapists themselves. The aim here is to provide a practical grounding in the practice of family attachment therapy, without neglecting theory and theoretical guidelines.

Purchased book because I am working with families with foster, adopted, and kinship children. My supervisior made me aware of the workbook, and I am glad he did. The whole plan, start to finish, is laid out in easy to understand guidelines and theory. Just tweak it to the individual client and you can almost see the success. Great for all looking for family therapy guidelines.
